Magdalena Lizardo

Director

Magdalena Lizardo Espinal has a Ph.D in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with areas of concentration in Econometrics and Industrial Organization.

She also has a Master’s degree in International Economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and a Master’s degree in Political Science for Democratic Development from the University of Salamanca/Funglode Program.

She completed her undergraduate studies in Economics at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo. Her professional activity has concentrated on economic development, international trade, rural development, and public finance.

She has been an economic advisor to public organizations in the Dominican Republic and Technical Vice Minister of the Presidency. She has worked for the IDB, World Bank, ECLAC, IMF, and FAO.

During the period 2004-2016, she served as Director of the Economic and Social Analysis Advisory Unit of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development of the Dominican Republic.

From this position, she actively participated in the process of reforming the public financial planning and administration systems, in the elaboration of the National Development Strategy of the Dominican Republic 2030, and processes of participation and social agreement such as the Participatory Anti-corruption Initiative, the Pact Agreement for Educational Reform and the National Agreement for the Reform of the Electricity Sector.

Since February 2017, Dr. Lizardo is Director of the Pareto Consulting Group.
